Color As Comfort, my very first solo show, is now up at Rare Device in San Francisco!
Here’s my artist statement about the show:
“I love that surrounding ourselves with images and objects we love is a way to create our own personal support system of symbols. As we build our collections over many years, each piece — whether it’s a piece of art or a rock from a sidewalk in Paris — has the power to create and store fond memories, good vibes, and positive energy.
My highest hope is that my work — which is primarily about exploring how color can make us feel — will be part of the self-care practice of bringing beauty and meaning into our spaces. I want my work to be a continuous source of joy, playfulness, and meaning for my collectors. Color as comfort.
In addition to showing my fine art prints, I’m also thrilled to share new original works — paintings and art objects I’m calling totems. Both have small footprints and big hearts :)”
It’s so awesome to me that my first show would be at Rare Device. The first time I went to the store was in 2007, which wasn’t so long after Rena Tom, who I “knew” from Flickr, had opened it. It’s been a special, can’t-miss-a-visit-when-I’m-in-SF place to me ever since. I’ve loved watching the magic that Lisa Congdon and now Giselle Gyalzen and Rachel Robertson and team have created. I’m honestly still pinching myself that this is all real and actually happening.
If you are in San Francisco I hope you’ll swing through and experience the magic for yourself - and hopefully enjoy the show!!!
If you’re interested in snagging some work from the show even if you’re not in San Francisco, you can shop the Rare Device website! Thank you team Rare Device!!!!! ✨🙏✨
