Fresh Eyes Photo Walk
"The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes." - Marcel Proust (I had this quote on the wall of my bedroom in high school, and it’s been with me ever since!)
Photography is a big part of my art practice - I literally find inspiration anywhere and everywhere! (Just ask my family how many times I stop to take a photo while out and about, hahahaha. You have no idea how many eye rolls I have to endure.)
Finding and capturing beauty and inspiration in my everyday surroundings is such a source of joy to me, I want to share it with you! On this adventure, we will use our phone cameras (you can bring something fancier if you prefer) to create a small body of work that will (gosh, hopefully) surprise, delight and inspire you!
We’ll be walking around inner SE Portland (flat, easy blocks) to complete a series of fun, simple experiments that will help us mix up our habitual ways of looking at the world around us and experience a creativity boost!
After about an hour of collecting images, we’ll head to a spot where we can get food and drinks (optional) and share our favorite photos from the walk. I’ll also share some fun ways to play with your photos (using free apps) to squeeze even more inspiration from them!
You’ll come away with…
New ways of seeing and thinking about the world around you from a visual perspective
A greater understanding of the kinds of visuals you are drawn to
New experiences/assignments you can use on your own when you want to feel refreshed or inspired creatively
That vacation-y, flow feeling you get when you’re immersed in something that requires all of your attention!
Who knows, perhaps a new friend?
